The Shadow Mountain String
Band is a troupe of professional
entertainers specializing in historically accurate music and dance. Based in
Colorado Springs, the
band has been playing together for over twenty years for dances, re-enactments, and
historical programs throughout the plains states, from Illinois to Colorado. The music is
played on acoustic instruments of the type that were commonly heard on the frontier in
1880, including hammered dulcimer, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and string bass.
Shadow Mountain can provide a "prompter," or dancemaster, to
teach and direct dancing. Dances usually include instruction of the steps and a
walk-through without music prior to each dance.
The band was formed in 1984
as the Fourth Artillery Quadrille Ensemble. After ten years, several
members left the Fourth Artillery to form a new group known as
Company Q. In 2007, the group took another step toward expanding
their music and the band became the Shadow Mountain String Band.
Shadow Mountain features authentic music on
authentic instruments and emphasizes customizing their performance to the
needs of the customer. Shadow Mountain has developed a reputation for
being easy to work with to produce quality events. The band's
objective is to always leave the dancers and organizers delighted with their
event.
